Baustelle at Villa Ada

North of Rome's historical city centre there is Villa Ada, an expansive park which I adore. A perfect spot to enjoy the sun in the summer. There is also an outdoor auditorium: last night I went to a concert with Gina saw Baustelle, a band from Tuscany, which was a great opportunity to fill the music vacuum created when I left London. It was awesome to be back at a concert - especially this one, because the crowd knew the songs so well (even if I didn't!)

Island Aperitivo

Panaramas of Lipari

Above is the island of Vulcano, and below are the islands Saline (the largest, centre), Alicudi distant and far left, and Filicudi between the two; on the right, Stromboli is partially blocked by Panerea.

Stromboli

Stromboli, one of the more distant Eolian islands, is a still somewhat active volcano. Above you can see that steam of a small eruption caught in the sunlight; below the water resembling black pearl at sunset. Magical.

A Hop, Step and a Jump

Just a quick update: After busily exploring Etna from our base on the cliffs in Taormina, mum and I spent three glorious days on Lipari. The island of Lipari itself is amazing, there is a great social scene, the food is great (some of the best roast chicken outside Portugal!) and we continued meeting Sicilians who were more than happy to chat, talk, and chat some more.

Twenty minutes before hopping on the bus to Palermo, I decided to spend the next 2 nights in Palermo. Here I am, and I better go and see if there's a hostel to stay at! Pictures soon!

Pasta in Taormina

Our friendly landlady cooked for us. Mum is convinced she wants to arrange a marriage with her daughter. Let the fight begin!

Not a really friendly place, but it has some nice canals.

Chance Meeting

Got off the bus in Taormina and was asking directions to where mum and I were staying when all of sudden this little fella appears - beers quickly ensued and there will be more to come in Rome or Melbourne!
