Phil was the pilot. His informality brought me back to Australia even before I'd arrived. The broad aussie accent was familiar again. Descending over Melbourne, the first thing I noticed is that the greens have turned yellow, and the yellows are turning brown. The drought and the water restrictions here are having a noticeable effect; even clandestine nocturnal watering isn't sufficient.
Melbourne is still bathed in good weather, and I took a bath in the surf yesterday with Marty and Hoges. Great to get down to a beach (at Philip Island), although the waves weren't much chop.Of course we had time to stop at the pub there for a quick beer or four... Just had to remind myself what aussie beers taste like. Good of Marty to take one for the team and drive us down, even after a very late night on Friday!
Funniest of all was seeing the aussie larrikins down at the pub: classic!
