Ben - Great to see your photos. The wonders of digital photos and internet. Sure beats having a slide night after the 'trip'. (ask your father, he will know what it means).
I can remember lining up in a post office in Athens (and other places) many many years ago to make the occassional international phone call back to Australia to let my Mother and Father know that I was still alive and sending the obligatory post cards back to family at home - all part of the travel experience at that time.
I note the recurring theme of food and drink and of course meeting people. This is the best part of travel - getting involved in the local cultures and customs and sampling their regional food and wine. I still think the French have got it on the rest of the World.
Your father sent me a copy of your degrees that were conferred 'in absentia' - congratulations. I did not get as many first time around, but picked up a few extra in my 'reclinging' years.
I understand that your Mother is about to visit or is visting. I have no doubt with your Italian language and bike riding abilities that she will enjoy herself
Allthe best for you continued travel, although your father tells me thay are about to end (for the moment)
